Bristol is a veritable melting pot of delectable burger restaurants at the moment (what a mental image).
Whether you prefer the grubbier end of the spectrum at Grillstock or MEATliquor, the customisable approach at The Burger Joint or the retro stylings at Atomic Burger, there’s something for everybody.
I’ve been a loyal fan of the perfectly-formed burgers at Chomp for a while now, but equidistant from my office is another burger & beer joint which has started stealing me away for more lunches than I’d care to count at this point.
Three Brothers Burgers is situated on Welsh Back in what used to be Spyglass. It’s a large and informal bar-restaurant which backs on to a barge for extra space. They have a small terrace area for sunnier days, although recently I’ve been making sure I bag a seat next to their wood burner now that we’re in proper winter times!
The burger menu here is exciting without being too extensive – although the main draw here is their £5 Lunch Deal, which gives you the choice of their house hamburger with fries, or their Portobello mushroom burger with fries.
You can add extras to make it a bit snazzier, from American burger cheese, gherkins or crispy onions for 50p, or bacon, cheddar or blue cheese for £1.50. They also offer some of the BBQ sauce or chipotle ketchup from Gingerbeard’s Preserves which are well worth a taste!
Their hamburgers are nicely thick and are served slightly pink (you can ask for them a bit more well done if you like though!), and I have it on good authority that their veggie burgers are tasty too. I recently tried the buttermilk fried chicken burger which might be my new favourite!
In addition to the munch, Three Brothers also has a great selection of beers on at any time, including some strong representation from local breweries such as Arbor, Wiper & True and Moor Beer.
They also do some pretty impressive milkshakes and ice cream sundaes if you’ve got more of a sweet tooth – although I’ve found that I can’t manage a burger AND a milkshake in one sitting sadly. The Oreo or Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup milkshakes are insanely good though, and proper stand-up-the-spoon-in-the-glass thick. You can also opt for one of their ‘Hard Shakes’ with Bailey’s or Cointreau in!
So, whether it’s for a lunchtime burger deal or a hangover hard shake, I’d definitely recommend paying Three Brothers a visit.
They have regular deals on Wriggle, and you can even get their burgers delivered to your door by Deliveroo – nice!
